The National Sports Commission (NSC) congratulates Golden Jaguars international Omari Glasgow on his historic accomplishment in being awarded the 2023–2024 CONCACAF Nations League Top Scorer and Best Young Player accolades following the conclusion of the competition.

Glasgow, 20, is competing in the FIFA Series in Saudi Arabia with the national team.

He registered seven goals in five matches during Guyana’s unbeaten campaign in League B of the Nations League.

His exploits led to Guyana’s first-ever qualification for the League A segment of the tournament.

The Chicago Fire II player becomes the first Guyanese to win a CONCACAF Nations League Top Scorer accolade and the first-ever Best Young Player award winner.

He is also the first player to win multiple individual awards.

Glasgow, who has 14 goals in 21 appearances for the senior national setup, is poised to eclipse the national record of 18 goals in 26 outings by Nigel Codrington.

Director of Sport Steve Ninvalle

In applauding Glasgow’s achievements, Director of Sport Steve Ninvalle said, “The NSC, and by extension, the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sport and Government of Guyana wish to extend congratulations to Omari Glasgow for his extraordinary achievements on the international stage in the CONCACAF Nations League.

Though aided by an overall collective effort and responsibility, his feats highlight what can be realised and attained in a developing and advancing sports culture and environment.”

He added, “On the individual side, his accomplishments speak to the perseverance and commitment that are hallmarks of successful athletes—elements that have stood the test of time as universal benchmarks.

More importantly, his attainment and overall story inspire burgeoning talents on the possibilities that can be obtained within a structured and conducive environment.

The NSC and Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sport and the government of Guyana remain committed in their unwavering support for sports development at every strata and once again applaud Omari Glasgow for his historic achievements.”
