Days after parcels of cocaine were discovered in a “go fast”, the two occupants were on Tuesday charged for the 536 kilograms bust and remanded to prison.
Jose Felix Lindore and Javier Perez appeared at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court. The charge was read to them by Magistrate Alisha George.
Both men pleaded not guilty to the offence and were remanded to prison. The case was adjourned to May 10, 2024.
Lindore and Perez were arrested on last Friday after ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) and the Guyana Defence Force Coast Guard intercepted their boat during a joint operation at Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo.
Upon searching the boat, a large quantity of narcotics along with a quantity of fuel and other items were discovered and the men were arrested.
The cocaine amounted to 536 kilos or 1,181pounds, with a street value of US$2.6million.
