Fire rips through Canal house leaving two persons homeless

A pensioner is among two persons who were displaced and left contemplating their next move after a fire ripped through a Ostend Canal No.2, West Bank Demerara (WBD) house Wednesday night. The fire started around 23:00hrs.

The house was occupied by 65-year-old Suraideo Cumberbatch and Teikumar Singh, 35.  The owners reside overseas.

The News Room understands that after receiving a call, three fire tenders and a crew of eleven firefighters were dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, they immediately went into firefighting mode to extinguish the blaze.

However, despite efforts, the two-storey wooden and concrete house and its contents were destroyed.

A sash window of a neighbouring house was also destroyed due to the heat.

The Guyana Fire Service has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.

    This is no good news … and the fires continue. What I am.thinking about is where would these people get alternative accommodation from.
