Press Release from the Guyana Cricket Board

Guyana narrowly missed out on the Cricket West Indies Rising Stars Under-15 title and was only edged out due to the fast-bowling points captured by winners Barbados. The Bajans finished with 22.0 points, including 4.0 pace points, winning four of their five games with the other being a no-result.

Meanwhile, the Guyanese also finished unbeaten, winning four of their five games as they finished with a total aggregate of 20.8 points, with 2.8 points coming from the efforts of their fast-bowlers.

Ironically, both Guyana and Barbados recorded their two respective points from the no-result contest in the first round where the two sides were set to open the competition before bad weather forced the stoppage of play.

It should be noted that pener Parmeshwar Ram emerged as the leading run-scorer for Guyana with a total of 135 runs at an average of 45.00, from the four games played. Ram has scores of 37*, 8, 30 and 60.

Vice-captain Emmanuel Lewis tallied 129 runs to end as the second-best scorer for his country, hitting scores of 31*, 16, 22 and 60.  All-rounder Shamar Apple proved his worth as he carried his team’s middle/lower-order throughout the tournament, ending with 126 runs with a whopping average of 63.00 with scores of 65, 43 and 18. Captain Adrian Hetmyer ended fourth amongst the runs, chalking up 124 runs at an average of 51.66, notching up scores of 24, 52 and 48.

Apart from pacer Arif Khan, who bagged 5-18 in an exceptional outing versus Trinidad and Tobago and finished with a total of seven wickets, spinner Ravaldo Pereira was by far the best Guyanese bowler.

Pereira finished with a total of 10 wickets with a best of 5-29, finishing fourth overall and could have easily ended with the most wickets in the competition, as the three bowlers above him only managed to edge him by a wicket.

Wicket-keeper Sohail Mohammed had an exceptional series behind the stumps, as he finished in the third spot with three dismissals.

The GCB is proud of the team’s accomplishments although they were unable to return with the trophy, but recognises their exceptional performances during the four completed matches.
