Security guard nabbed with 5lbs ganja at Weldaad

Eon Williams, a 29-year-old security guard employed by Atlas Security Service, was on Wednesday nabbed with 2,385 grammes (or about 5.2 pounds) of marijuana during a Police roadblock at Weldaad, Region Five.

Police Headquarters said Williams was travelling in motor car HD 1785 at about 17:00 hrs Wednesday. The vehicle was stopped and ranks requested to search the vehicle with multiple occupants. It was then that a bag belonging to Williams was searched; a large parcel with suspected narcotics was found inside the bag.

The parcel was wrapped in transparent plastic and Police suspected it was cannabis. So Williams was told of the offence, arrested, and cautioned. He admitted to owning the drug and stated that he was “trying a hustle”.

Meanwhile, a bag belonging to another occupant, 21-year-old Haiasi Saul was also searched. Police found a transparent plastic inside which contained 43 grammes (less than 0.1 pound) of suspected cannabis.

Saul was also informed of the offence, arrested, and cautioned. He admitted to owning the drug and claimed it was for personal use.

Both men were taken into custody at the Fort Wellington Police Station. Investigations continue.
