Comfortable wins for Slingerz FC, Fruta Conquerors in KFC Elite League

Slingerz FC and Fruta Conquerors FC secured comfortable wins on Thursday night, boosting their positions in the KFC Elite League Season Six standings. Slingerz FC now holds second place, while Fruta Conquerors FC advanced to fifth position.

At the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) National Training Centre at Providence, East Bank Demerara, fans cheered as Fruta Conquerors FC defeated Den Amstel FC 4-0 and Slingerz FC asserted their dominance with a resounding 5-0 win against Ann’s Grove United FC on April 4.

In the opening match, Fruta Conquerors FC had it all sewn up by half-time, with all four goals netted by Makhaya Jervis in the 30th and 40th minutes, while Dwayne Jones struck at the 33rd minute mark, and Antwon Denny joined in the action in the 37th minute.

The night’s final match between Slingerz FC and Ann’s Grove United FC saw a different scenario as both teams found themselves goalless at half-time. Slingerz FC’s Marcus Tudor ignited the action, scoring the first two goals of the match in the 51st and 55th minutes.

Jerome Harrigan followed suit with a goal in the 83rd minute, while Jamal Codrington found the back of the net in the 89th minute. The scoring frenzy concluded with Gabriel DeSouza’s strike in the 90+2 minute.

As of April 5, Guyana Police Force FC leads the pack, notching six consecutive wins and accumulating 18 points. Meanwhile, Slingerz FC has climbed a spot, maintaining a flawless record with five wins out of five matches, amassing 15 points in total.

Western Tigers FC slipped down the standings after their recent defeat to Slingerz FC, now tallying three wins and two losses, for a total of nine points.

Defending champions, Guyana Defence Force FC, is fourth place with three wins from three games, also on nine points. But they have three games in the bank.

Fruta Conquerors FC jumped one spot to fifth with three wins and four losses, totaling nine points, while Den Amstel FV jumped two spots, securing seven points from two wins, one draw, and two losses.

Santos FC dropped two positions to seventh in the table, registering two wins and four losses, amounting to six points, with Ann’s Grove United FC moving down one spot with one win, one draw, and three losses, earning four points.

Rounding up the table are Buxton United FC and Monedderlust FC, both of whom have suffered defeats in all five of their matches.

Ten top-tier clubs are vying for the first-place prize of G$2,000,000, with additional cash rewards of $1,200,000, $800,000, and $500,000 awaiting the second, third, and fourth positions, respectively.

Up Next: The GFF Women’s League will open Saturday (April 6) with Fruta Conquerors FC coming up against Guyana Defence Force from 18:30h. The KFC Elite League will continue with Police versus GDF from 21:00h at the National Training Centre.
