Man who assaulted woman nabbed with AK-47 ammo


A 36-year-old man of Middle Walk, Buxton, East Coast Demerara (ECD) was nabbed with 15 live rounds of AK-47 ammunition after he assaulted a woman and threatened her with a gun.

Police Headquarters reported that the man assaulted the mother of his child and threatened her with a gun at about 23:45 hrs Friday.

The woman reported the assault to the Police and officers went to the man’s residence, responding to the domestic violence report.

The man was told of the offence, cautioned and arrested. When a subsequent search of the premises was conducted, the ranks found a magazine with 15 live (7.62 × 39) AK rounds of ammunition.

Checks were made for the firearm but it was not found.

The ammunition was photographed, taken possession of, and escorted to the Vigilance Police Station where it was processed for latent prints and lodged.

The suspect is in custody pending further investigation.
