Sukhnandan, Ramzan, Grovesnor and Bishop among top performers in GCA U-13 Pairs cricket

The Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) recently commenced it innovative Under-13 Pairs cricket competition, sponsored by I&S Trading, TECHLIFY Inc. and Unique Electrical and General Store.

The 30-over competition features rivalry among male and female teams from the city.

During the first weekend of matches, there were several outstanding individual performers.

Left-arm spinner Nathanial Sukhnandan had the best bowling figures of 5-15 for Team Leviton, while left-handed batsman Shahid Ramzan had the highest individual score of 40, playing for Team Unique Electrical and General Store.

Leg-spinner Rakeem Latif was also among the wickets with 4-14 for Team Unique Electrical and General Store, while Rohit Kissoon struck 36 for Team I&S Trading, Nathan Bishop made 35 for Team Leviton and Jamaine Grovesnor had scores of 26 and 32 in his two innings for Team TECHLIFY Inc.

Based on the tournament rules, teams start with a total of 240 runs and for every wicket lost during the 30 overs, 10 runs are deducted to derive their final total, which the opposition has to chase.

Players bat in pairs, with six pairs batting a maximum of five overs. Eight bowlers are allowed to bowl a maximum of three overs each, while three will bowl two apiece.

Below are the summarised scores from the games played

Hersheys Chocolate (Ladies) defeated Team Leviton by six runs: Hersheys Chocolate scored 395, but with 15 dismissals, they ended with a total of 248. Extras were 68, while Selena Khan made 22 and Melanie Dover 14.

Bowling for Team Leviton, left-arm spinner Nathaniel Sukhnandan was outstanding with figures of 5-15, while Balashankar Narine took 2-4. There was also a wicket each for Michael Moore and Wazim Ali.

Team Leviton made 362 overall, but with 12 dismissals they ended up on 242. Bowling for Hersheys Chocolate, Chelsea Latif took 2-11 and Selena Khan 2-16.

Team I&S Trading defeated Team TECHLIFY Inc. by 71 runs: Team I&S Trading put up 355 runs with Rohit Kissoon making 36, Sunil Boodram 21 and Asraf Khan and Lomar Seecharran 19 each.

Aden Samaroo was the pick of the bowlers with 2-13, while Orwin Jordon, Nathan Puran, Azariah Duncan, Satullah Ali, Joel Beckles, Omari John and Pravin Ramsaroop all took a wicket each.

In reply, Team TECHLIFY Inc. made 284 with Jamaine Grovesnor making 26 and Mickel Johnson 20, while Ethan Persaud bagged 3-1, Darren Mendonca 2-10 and Tyler Nedd 2-13.

Team Unique Electrical and General Store defeated I&S Trading by 168 runs: Team Unique Electrical and General Store posted 383 with the left-handed Shahid Ramzan hitting a classy 40, the highest individual score of the tournament thus far.

Reyaz Latif supported with 22, Makai Dowlin stroked a well-composed 20, while Jasane Craig and Mario Singh chipped in with 12 apiece.

Bowling for I&S Trading, Aaron Thomas took 2-17 and Tyler Nedd 2-11, while there was a wicket each for Sunil Boodram and Ajay Kissoon.

I&S Trading were limited to 215 with Brandon Kandasammy (12), Ethan Persaud (11) and Lomar Seecharran (10) the leading scorers.

Rakeem Latif was the standout bowler with 4-14, Makai Dowlin snapped up 3-13, Krishna Singh 2-6, while Reyaz Latif, Jasane Craig and Shahid Ramzan each took a wicket.

Team Leviton defeated Team TECHLIFY Inc. by 185 runs: Team Leviton batted first and posted 381 with Nathan Bishop hitting 35, Nathaniel Sukhnandan 18 and Nathaniel Ramkhelawan 16.

Bowling for Team TECHLIFY Inc., Mickel Johnson took 2-9, while Nathan Puran, Aden Samaroo and Orwin John had a wicket each.

Team TECHLIFY responded with 196 with Jamaine Grovesnor hitting 32, Mickel Johnson and Nathan Puran 17 each and Orwin Jordan 14.

Bowling for Team Leviton, Hezekiah Hohenkirk (3-9), Asraf Khan (2-8), Nathaniel Sukhanadan (2-2), Balashankar Narine (2-1), Caleb Bastian (2-1), Wazim Ali (2-6) were among the wickets. Michael Moore and Nathaniel Ramkhelawan also had one each.

The competition is set to continue on Sunday (April 7) with two games at the Transport Sports Club, Thomas Lands, Georgetown.

At 09:00h, Team Leviton will take on Team Unique Electrical and General Store, while from 13:30h, Hersheys Chocolate (Ladies) will face Team TECHLIFY Inc.
