Douglas Joseph, a 77-year-old resident of Ariwa Oval, Retrieve, Mackenzie in the town of Linden, is now homeless after a fire was deliberately set at his residence.
The Guyana Fire Service reported that the fire was reported at about 22:36 hrs Saturday. Four firefighters and their water bowser reportedly responded in minutes and saw the two-storey concrete structure engulfed in flames.
The structure, owned by the late Deryl Joseph and occupied by Douglas, sustained irreparable damage resulting in the complete destruction of the building and its contents.
However, the Fire Service noted that this blaze may have been maliciously set by unknown persons. The incident remains under investigation as fire officials collaborate with the Police to determine the cause of the fire.
And the Fire Service said anyone with information that could help identify the perpetrator(s) is encouraged to contact the Police.
