Guyanese man dies after falling from 40-foot scaffold at worksite in Barbados

[Nation News] – A 51-year-old Guyanese man identified as Andell Mc Garrell  fell to his death while working on a construction site Monday morning in Barbados.

Mc Garrell would have celebrated his 52nd birthday a month from today on May 09, 2024.

Police said the incident occurred at Apes Hill, St James about 8:20 hrs.

It was reported that two men fell from a 30-40 foot high scaffolding while doing construction work on a building located at lot C4 Apes Hill. The 51-year-old man, who is a resident of Barbados fell onto a piece of steel and was impaled. He died on the spot. The other worker, a 50-year-old man, was transported by ambulance to the hospital.

    Safety Harness property strapped on at ANY height would have had a different effect.
    It is a required when working at varying heights- of course, only in some countries.

    This is so,so sad I do extend my profound condolences to his family and associates . I just wonder if the scaffolding met all the mandatory safety and health requirements as is seen and practiced in countries like the UK.
    These incidents must not be allowed in any given working environment and those who employ must ensure they exercise the duty of care by providing a safe place of work.
