The contract awarded to Trinidadian company, Kallco Guyana Inc. for the Conversation Tree to Dennis Street road project is likely to be terminated soon with the project moving forward in a slothful manner.

“It is obvious to all Guyana to see that Kallco has not performed and Kallco is being engaged with a view of termination,” Public Works Minister Juan Edghill told the News Room on Tuesday.

On several occasions, the company was flagged for poor performance. Last year, additional workers were hired and extra equipment was procured as the company resumed work on the project. But even with extensions given, the company has not managed to complete the project.

When Edghill visited the project in March, two months after it should have been completed, he saw that work was not ongoing. Last week, the Public Works Minister told the News Room that the ministry was engaging the company but there were communication difficulties as Kallco’s principals reside overseas.

On Wednesday, Edghill said that work was still paused and that’s why the government will be moving towards terminating the contract soon.

“They haven’t received a stop order to stop working but you can take your cameras there to see if they are working,” Edghill said.
