Unbeaten Berbice regains female U-19 T20 title

Berbice got the desired revenge as they defeated rivals Demerara to regain the female Under-19 T20 title at the Malteenoes Sports Club on Tuesday.

Berbice bundled Demerara for a paltry 63 from 15 overs and then aced the chase in 13.3 overs with nine wickets standing.

Skipper Realenna Grimmond led the charge with the ball, grabbing 4-17 and then sealing the victory with an unbeaten 10.

Crystal Durant struck four boundaries in her top score of 24, while Tiea Isaacs made 16, and extras accounted for 14.

When Demerara batted, Berbice leaked 23 extras as Naiomi Barkoye top-scored with 12.

Extra accounted for 188 runs out of the 594 runs scored in the three matches.

Meanwhile, Barkoye ended as the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 55 runs in two matches, while Grimmond topped the charts with five wickets.

The Guyana Cricket Board informed that a squad will be selected in the coming weeks to prepare for the Regional Under-19 30-over tournament in Trinidad and Tobago.
