Man charged for soliciting, posting naked images of children

Joshua Rambarran, the 28-year-old man who is accused of convincing two children to send him photographs of themselves, which he later uploaded online was on Monday slapped with a total of eight cybercrime charges and remanded to prison.

Magistrate Mitchell Mathias read the charges to Rambarran at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court.

Rambarran, a resident of St Ann Street, New Amsterdam, Berbice faced six counts of using a computer system to obtain and transmit child pornography, committed on a child under age 14.

He was also slapped with two counts of alleged child pornography and using a computer system to coerce, harass, intimidate, and humiliate a person.

The prosecutor objected to bail, which was upheld.

Rambarran was remanded to prison until May 20.

Police Headquarters said following reports of child luring and child pornography, an investigation was launched into the incidents which occurred on March 27, 2024 and April 6, 2024.

Upon conclusion, investigators found that the two children, under the age of 14, were groomed and convinced to send explicit pictures and videos to a Snapchat account, and the said pictures and videos were posted to a telegram group.
