Sunrisers Hyderabad shattered their own IPL record for the highest total, piling up 287-3 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, surpassing the 277-3 they made against Mumbai Indians on March 27, 2024.
The new IPL record is the second highest total in all T20s, just behind Nepal’s 314-3 against Mongolia on September 27, 2023. Sunrisers’ 22 sixes is also the new IPL record for maximums in an innings.
Australian Travis Head scored his maiden IPL ton, a brilliant 102 off 41 balls, before the in-form Heinrich Klaasen muscled 67 off 31 with seven sixes.
Abdul Samad put the finishing touches on the innings with 37 not out off 10, while opener Abhishek Sharma made 34 off 22 and Aiden Markram an unbeaten 32 off 17.
Lockie Ferguson (2-52) and Reece Topley (1-68) were the expensive wicket-takers for RCB.
That RCB fell just 25 runs short of the target spoke of how conducive conditions were for batting. Dinesh Karthik slammed 83 off 35 and skipper Faf du Plessis 62 off 28. Virat Kohli made 42, with Pat Cummins taking 3-43 and Mayank Markande 2-46.
IPL action continues on Tuesday with Kolkata Knight Riders versus Rajasthan Royals from 10:00h.
