Taxi driver charged, remanded for possession of marijuana

A 22-year-old resident of Kitty, Georgetown was on Monday remanded to prison after he was charged for possession of 52 pounds of marijuana.

Nicholas Whyte of Shell Road, Kitty, Georgetown appeared before Senior Magistrate Clive Nurse at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

He was charged with the offence of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

Whyte, who was arrested last Saturday pleaded not guilty and was remanded to prison.

The matter was adjourned to June 30 for report.

Police Headquarters in a statement said around 22:00hrs, ranks acting on information intercepted a white Premio motor car, PAC 4402 at Ramp Road Ruimveldt, Georgetown.

Whyte was the driver of the car.

A search was conducted on the vehicle and a brown salt bag, with 15 bulky parcels containing leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis were found wrapped with transparent plastic.
