Two fishermen who left for the high seas off the coast of Region Six on Friday are still missing but according to a relative, their wrecked boat and the engine were found.
One of the missing men is Barat Bissoondial, 45; the other man is known as “Monty”. They are both from Cotton Tree Backdam, Berbice.
According to Madahdow Bissoondial, her brother and Monty left around 8:00 hrs on Friday. On Saturday another crew reported that they were spotted. When the men did not return Saturday night, the family sent another boat to find them.
That boat left on Sunday and during this search, the men were not found. A missing persons’ report has since been made.
Another search for the men resulted in the discovery of a wrecked boat and engine suspected to belong to the men.
“My sons dem and my brothers dem went and look for him but them nah find him up to now.
“But they found the boat bruk up and the engine… everybody searching up to now and I am very sad for my brother,” Bissoondial said.
The woman also said her brother was the breadwinner for his family.
Bissoondial said she is devastated because she fears her brother’s death. The father of three children was shot in his left hand during a robbery several years ago. His sister said he couldn’t use the injured hand but would try to carry out his duty with the other hand.
