$50 million worth in cannabis destroyed at Region 10

Police officers attached to the Mackenzie Police Station, Region Ten on Saturday conducted an eradication exercise, destroying $50 million worth of cannabis.

Police headquarters Sunday said the exercise was done between 05:00 hrs and 13:00hrs, at Kaiwa, Upper  Berbice River.

During this exercise, a cannabis farm that was approximately four acres in size and had about 6,000 cannabis plants, ranging from six inches to four feet in height, were found.

The marijuana found there weighed 6,600 kilogrammes and carried a street value of $1, 016,400.

There was also a small nursery that had approximately 20,000 seedlings.

Police also searched a makeshift camp and found kitchen utensils, groceries, 54.431 kilogrammes of dried cannabis, which carried a street value of $48,987, 900.

The farm was photographed and then destroyed.

No one was arrested during the exercise.
