A 28-year-old businessman from Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni- Mazaruni), was on Monday arrested after he was caught with a firearm and 40 pills suspected to be amphetamine (ecstasy).
Police Headquarters said that at about 14:35 hrs, ranks were on duty at the Itaballi checkpoint where the man was arrested.
The businessman was on an All-Terrain vehicle (ATV), with an unknown registration number. The ranks then requested his driver’s license and the ATV’s documents. The businessman reportedly said he didn’t have any of those documents.
A search was then requested and he agreed.
During the search, a haversack was found with the pills inside and the pistol branded “Springfield Armory USA,” bearing serial #US979040 on the frame. Ten 9 mm rounds of ammunition were also found in the ATV.
The driver was then informed of the offenses committed, cautioned, and arrested. He was placed in custody, and the firearm and drugs were marked, sealed, and lodged.
