Mixed Doubles bronze for Guyana at Senior Caribbean Table Tennis Championship

Shemar Britton and Chelsea Edghill won bronze for Guyana in Mixed Doubles at the Senior Caribbean Table Tennis Championship, which concluded in the Dominican Republic on Sunday.

After defeating the formidable hosts pair Rafael Cabrera and Eva Brito 3-2 (8-11, 9-11, 11-9, 20-18, 11-9), they lost their semi-final encounter to Cubans Jorge Campos and Daniel Fonseca 6-11, 10-12, 5-11.

The pair finished joint third with Puerto Rico’s Angel Naranjo and Brianna Burgos.

Additionally, Britton reached the furthest for Guyana in the Singles segment as he lost in the quarter-final 0-4 (3-11, 5-11, 7-11, 6-11) to Campos.

Britton and Elishaba Johnson missed a second medal, going down 9-11, 4-11, 7-11 to the hosts’ Eduardo Darley and Samuel Galvez in the quarter-finals.

Likewise, Edghill and Natalie Cummings bowed out at the same stage as they lost 2-3 to Cuba.

The Men’s and Women’s teams won bronze in the team segment.

The Junior team is also in Santo Domingo for the Junior Championships that runs from April 23-28.
