Two men who were riding a motorcycle early Saturday morning are now dead after they crashed into a utility pole near the Diamond Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

Dead are Philbert Charles, a 24-year-old truck driver of Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara (ECD), and Chris Daniels, a 20-year-old mechanic of Golden Grove, ECD.

Police Headquarters reported that the accident occurred at about 04:10 hrs in the vicinity of the DSL supermarket. The men were riding motorcycle #CN 1649; Daniels was the pillion rider.

The men were riding south along the western drive lane of the Diamond Public Road, allegedly at a fast rate when Charles lost control of the motorcycle and collided with a utility pole.

Both the driver and pillion rider reportedly fell onto the road surface receiving injuries.

Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) were summoned and both persons were picked up in an unconscious condition and taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where they were examined by a doctor on duty. Charles was pronounced dead.

Daniels, on the other hand, was referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation. He, however, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.

It was reported that neither the driver nor pillion rider was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.

Both bodies are at the Memorial Gardens mortuary awaiting post-mortem examination. Investigations are ongoing.

The UTILITY POLES along the roadside do not stand a chance for a long life, with the speedsters.
Time for GPL to place warning notice on every Utility Pole: WARNING- CRASHING INTO THIS POLE MAY
    LEAD TO DEATH. DRIVE CAREFULLY.
