A decomposed body found at Hope Beach, East Coast Demerara (ECD) on Sunday has now been positively identified, Police Headquarters said Tuesday night.

It was reported that the body was found after it washed up on the beach midday Sunday. It was the body of a man clad in a cream and black striped jersey and cream underwear.

On Tuesday, a man reportedly went to the Cove and John Police Station claiming that his father-in-law, 74-year-old Michael Bacchus had gone missing since April 16.

A missing person report was made at the Brickdam and Alberttown Police Stations before.

As a result, the man was accompanied by the Police to the Memorial Gardens Mortuary, and he was able to positively identify the body as his father-in-law due to the clothing and dentures.

The man reportedly claimed that Bacchus suffered from dementia and was a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital. A post-mortem examination is scheduled for May 3 and investigations are ongoing.
