Trials for the legal cultivation of industrial hemp will commence in Regions Six and Ten shortly with small-scale farmers already allocated lands for this testing initiative. In August 2022, the National Assembly passed the Industrial Hemp Bill.
Hemp advocate Michael Kirton said farmers remain excited and enthusiastic though the process of large-scale hemp production seems slow. They look forward to the government putting in place the regulatory framework even as work is going to ensure a successful take-off in the shortest possible time.
