Kaieteur News was Friday sent a pre-action letter by the attorney of Chinese businessman, Beian Cui, instructing that it retract an article that featured an incorrect image of Mr Beian.

Failure to do so will result in the newspaper facing legal action.

Beian, a resident of New Amsterdam, Berbice operates several businesses in the country.

In the article titled “Su attends PPP fundraiser, but Jagdeo claims has not seen him”, Beian’s photograph was used. He was falsely identified as Su Zhi Rong.

In a letter addressed to the editor of the newspaper, Beian’s attorney Sase Gunraj called for a retraction of the article.

“We are instructed to demand, as we hereby do, that you publish a retraction of the said article and photograph in your next publication, giving same similar or greater prominence than the instant article,” the letter stated.

The Newspaper has been widely criticized on social media platforms for the blunder.

Kaieteur News has lost several cases after it was sued and was forced to pay millions of dollars. It is currently defending other cases.
