CID rank in fatal hit and run accident arrested


Police are investigating a hit-and-run accident which resulted in the death of 34-year-old pedestrian, Rupert Singh on the Farm Public Road, East Bank Demerara on Wednesday.

Singh was allegedly struck down by a motorcar, driven by a 25-year-old Police Constable attached to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters. The accident occurred around 21:40hrs.

After fleeing the scene, the Police Constable was arrested the following day. And he led ranks to an area in Caneview where the car was found hidden in some bushes.

In a statement, Police Headquarters said Singh was crossing the public road, when he was struck down by the speeding car.

“Singh was crossing the road from west to east while the car, which was traveling at a fast rate of speed heading north, collided with him,” the statement said.

As a resutl of the collision, Singh was flung into the air and landed on the road surface. He was picked up and taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Singh’s body is currently at the Memorial Garden Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.

    How come the Police with-holding the photo of this CID fella from the press ?
    Fleeing the scene of a deadly accident he is involved in needs to be prosecuted.
