“These guys still threatening me”- CI man fearful after beaten, robbed at supermarket

Two weeks after he was allegedly beaten and robbed during an errand at a Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara (WCD) supermarket, a 25-year-old man is hoping that his attackers would be apprehended and put behind bars.

Naeem Bacchus of Seaview Cornelia Ida told the News Room that since the incident on April 21, he has been living in fear with his attackers still threatening him.

“These guys still threatening me that they could do this anytime they want,” Bacchus said.

During a telephone interview with the News Room on Friday, Bacchus said he frequents the supermarket. About a month ago, he said he and the prime suspect known as “Chucky” had a confrontation which he believed was resolved.

“He come and he chuck me up and I tell he me ain’t want no problem and so on,” Bacchus said.

On the night in question, he said he was entering the supermarket when he noticed the suspect imbibing with some other men. Bacchus said, the suspect and another man had an argument and the suspect pushed the man into him.

“The beer that the guy had spill on me. So I said y’all stop fighting and stuff like that and by time I go talk to he, he (suspect) hold on my finger and bite my finger,” Bacchus told the News Room.

An angry Bacchus retaliated and cuffed the man to his face.  “We end up scramble and fight,” he said.

At this point, Bacchus related that the suspect left and returned shortly after with several of his relatives including his father and brother.

“They circle around me. I try talking to he father but he said he ain’t want hear nothing. So as soon as I turn my back, he father and he uncle come and chuck me and I fall on a bicycle. They pick up some bottles and brick and start lash me towards my shoulder, back and head and stuff,” Bacchus explained.

As a result, Bacchus said he sustained injuries to his face and his right elbow which he used to bar from the blows.

Bacchus said he had around $25,000 in his possession which was allegedly taken by the suspects.

“When I reach at the hospital, I asked mommy and she said I ain’t had no money me. All did gone,” he said.

While he was treated and sent away, Bacchus is scheduled to return to the hospital in the new week to conduct an MRI which will determine the extent of his injuries.

“When we go they (police) pushing around we… after the Sergeant took over the matter…and they get the footage and so they call me and tell me Tuesday will be the court day,” Bacchus said.

The victim is demanding justice. He said he hopes his attackers will face the full force of the law.
