Two arrested after marijuana, gun found in La Penitence house

Police have arrested a man and a woman following the discovery of an illegal gun and 30 grammes of cannabis in their La Penitence Squatting area, Georgetown house on Sunday.

The items, a .31 Taurus pistol with a magazine containing one round of ammunition and the parcel of cannabis, were unearthed around 00:30hrs during an intelligence led operation led by an Assistant Superintendent.

Police Headquarters in a statement said the gun and ammunition were found in the bedroom.

A further search unearthed the cannabis, which was in a transparent plastic bag in the kitchen.

The 30-year-old man and the 27-year-old woman were asked whether they were holders of a valid firearm license and Police said they responded in the negative.

As such, they were told of the offenses committed, arrested and taken to the East La Penitence police station.

There, the items were marked and lodged.

The suspects remain in custody pending further investigations.
