The fifth edition of the ExxonMobil Boys and Girls Under-14 Schools Football tournament has expanded to accommodate 56 teams.

Teams have registered from eight of the ten administrative regions for the annual competition that commences May 18.

On Thursday, Petra Organisation, launched the tournament in partnership with ExxonMobil Guyana.

In 2023, there were 48 teams; a year later, eight more were added to expose more talents at the youth level.

There will be 32 male and 24 female teams, and ExxonMobil’s support has swelled to $G$17.7M.

The format will be a round-robin knock, from which there would be no more elimination for both divisions after the final eight teams are decided.

At the official launch at Cara Lodge, the organisers and sponsor expressed excitement over what lies ahead and its potential impact on overall youth development.

According to Suzanne De Abreu, Community Relations Manager for ExxonMobil Guyana, establishing meaningful relationships that benefit communities is integral to their global/social enhancement efforts.

The Ministry of Education’s continued support comes from the increasing need for well-rounded students better equipped for life ahead.

The cash prizes, which go towards school grants, are $400,000 (first), $200,000 (second), $100,000 (third), and $75,000 (fourth), along with individual accolades.

More so, Petra will provide school supplies year-long for the male and female Most Valuable Players.

Last year, the Boys from Bartica and the girls from Waramuri Top won the tournament.

All matches will be staged at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue, and the final is tentatively set for June 29.
