In his first press conference as the newly- reelected General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C), Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo on Thursday said no state funds were used to host the party’s 32nd Congress.

Jagdeo, who is also Guyana’s Vice President, boasted of the largest ever turnout at the congress held last weekend and how well-supported the party is now.

But even as he spoke about how many people are rallying behind the party, particularly with the 2025 General and Regional Elections on the horizon, he made it clear that all funds used were raised by the party itself.

“Our congress was entirely funded by party funds, not state funds,” Jagdeo said on Thursday at a PPP/C press conference hosted at the party’s headquarters in Georgetown.

Meanwhile, the General Secretary said the congress re-energised the party’s members, activists and volunteers and they are focused on winning the next elections and developing the country for the years ahead.

And he said the party is keen on defending itself against those who Jagdeo believes wrongly criticises it.

“We will come down on their heads with a bulldozer not a sledgehammer… for too long we have allowed them to divide this country,” He said.
