Shot GDF rank still critically hospitalised – relatives

Twenty-two-year-old Azim Khan, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) private who was shot during a home invasion two weeks ago remains hospitalised in a critical condition with no signs of improvement.

And though his chances of survival is minimal, his family is clinging to hope.

“Right now he is on a life machine… He was in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) then he went in the HDU (High Dependency Unit).

“We just hoping and praying for the best,” his brother, Ameir Hussain told the News Room on Thursday.

Khan was shot in close proximity to the heart while putting up a fight with two masked bandits who invaded his Block 8, Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara house during the wee hours of May 5.

Information gathered by the News Room revealed that Azim and some of his relatives were hanging out in the kitchen area of the house.

While seated, Azim noticed two masked men entering the house through the front door which was left open.

Azim approached the bandits and a scuffle ensued. One of the men whipped out a firearm and discharged two rounds, one of which struck Azim.

Azim had a quantity of cash in his possession. The cash, along with a gold chain he was wearing and his cellular phone were stolen. The bandits then escaped on foot.

During a telephone interview with the News Room, Ameir said no one was arrested.

As the probe continues, Ameir said the police are working with little information.

“Every day me and them (police) does have a word. Remember we didn’t had a close view, nobody didn’t had a close look at these people (bandits).

“So nobody know who is these people them but they working on it because they still trying to go around, trying to see what more footage they can get whatsoever,” Ameir explained.
