Labourer, 50, chopped and injured during drinking spree

Ronald Deen, a 50-year-old labourer, is currently hospitalised after he was chopped during an argument on Friday afternoon at Eccles Industrial Site, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

Deen, a resident of Water Street, Bagotstown, EBD sustained a chop wound to his forehead during the incident which took place around 17:40hrs.

He and his attacker, a 56-year-old, security guard of Herstelling, EBD, are known to each other.

Police Headquarters in a statement said Deen and several other persons were consuming alcohol at the Fishery at Eccles, EBD.

During the process, Police said the suspect approached the men and asked that they leave since he wanted to secure the building.

At this point, Police said Deen held onto the suspect’s leg and although the man asked Deen to release, he refused.

This resulted in Deen and the suspect having an argument during which the suspect whipped out a cutlass from his pants waist and inflicted the chop.

Deen was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he is receiving treatment. His condition is regarded as critical.

The suspect is currently in Police custody assisting with the investigation.
