Berbice motorcyclist dies following accident, pillion rider seriously injured

An accident Tuesday night along the Liverpool Public Road, Corentyne Berbice claimed the life of motorcyclist Zameer Alli, a Labourer of Letter Kenny Village and injured pillion rider, 23-year old Samuel Anderson of St. Paul Street, Rosehall Town.

Police Headquarters, in a statement, said the accident occurred just after 19:00 hrs and involved motor car with registration number HD 3517 owned by Oswin Stewart and driven by Eutambu Downer and the motorcycle which was driven by Alli.

“Initial investigations revealed that motor car HD 3517 was proceeding west along Liverpool Public Road and  attempted a right turn north when the black XR motor cycle with driver and pillion rider (both without safety helmet) was in the process of overtaking, the front portion of the motor cycle collided with the right side front portion of the motor car,” the police statement noted.

As a result of the collision, the driver of the motor cycle and pillion rider fell onto the road surface, receiving injuries about their bodies. They were  picked up by public spirited citizens and taken to Port Mourant Public Hospital, where they were both  examined by a doctor on duty.

Alli succumbed while receiving medical attention. However, Anderson was transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital in a conscious condition, where he is being treated for a fractured right foot and abrasions to both hands. His condition is regarded as stable.

A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver of the motor car and it gave a reading of zero.

The  driver is in custody, assisting with investigation.

    First of all, the motorcycle was NOT overtaking, but instead “undertaking”……which is illegal as no driving lane exists to the right of the only westbound driving lane.

    Why is the driver in custody? Period! The police are skilled and can see what caused the crash!!!!
