Suyjit Ramotar, a 53-year-old rice farmer of Letter Kenny Village, Corentyne, Berbice, was found dead in the Whim Police Station lock-ups on Saturday.
The News Room understands that Ramotar, called Mono, was expected to appear in court on Tuesday to answer to the charge of murder committed on Joshua Hardatt.
Hardatt, a resident of Bloomfield Village, Corentyne Berbice, was murdered sometime between 18:00 hrs on Tuesday and 08:00 hrs on Wednesday at Auchlyne Cultivating Dam.
Police Headquarters reported that Hardatt left his residence with his silver-grey Toyota Premio motor car, PAD 1612 and went to an unknown destination.
At about 09:00 hrs relatives received a call that the car was seen on the dam. The Police were informed and the scene was visited.
Hardatt’s body was found motionless, lying face down in a crouching position in the back passenger seat of his car with marks of violence to his face forehead, and a wound to the back of the head.
Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum on Thursday told the News Room that a man confessed to killing the welder. The suspect’s identity was, however, not revealed then.
Ramotar’s brother, Dalim Ramotar, told reporters that Police contacted him and told him that his brother was found dead in the lock-ups. When Dalim arrived at the Police Station, he said his brother’s body was taken away in a Police patrol vehicle; he was unable to see the body.
Regional Commander Shivpersaud Bacchus has not yet provided an update on the matter.
