Back Circle B, a team of promising young footballers from East Ruimveldt, emerged victorious in the thrilling conclusion of the Mocha-Arcadia’s Inaugural Independence Street Football tournament.

The three-day competition, held from May 23rd to 26th, 2024, at the Mocha Community Centre Ground, served as a vibrant celebration of Guyana’s 58th year of Independence.

The young guns of BCB displayed their determination throughout the tournament, culminating in a dramatic penalty shootout victory over the Tucville outfit, Taliban Ballers.

After a tense 1-1 draw in regulation time, BCB held their nerve from the penalty spot, edging their rivals 2-1 to claim the coveted first-place trophy and a rewarding $150,000 prize. The valiant Taliban Ballers received $75,000 along with a trophy and medals for their second-place finish.

The highly competitive tournament featured a total of 24 teams, showcasing the depth of footballing talent within the region. Teams like Ballerz Empire (Bagostown), Agricola Ballers, Timehri Ballers, and Victoria Eagles all contributed to the exciting atmosphere.

The enthusiastic support from the crowd added another dimension to the event, fostering a sense of unity and community spirit.

    Fulfilling a Vision

Organisers hailed the tournament as a resounding success, achieving its key objectives. The event provided a constructive outlet for young players to showcase their skills while promoting unity within the Mocha-Arcadia community.

With the backing of sponsors like the Guyana Police Force, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, and various local businesses, the inaugural tournament has set a promising precedent for future editions.

    Victoria Eagles Take Third

In the battle for third place, Victoria Eagles emerged victorious over Genesis, claiming a $50,000 prize and the third-place trophy. Genesis received $25,000 for their fourth-place finish, along with a trophy and medals.
