Providing job opportunities for dozens of citizens and with a wide collection of local products to choose from, the grocery chain Massy Stores Saturday opened the doors to its sixth location in Guyana.
It replaces Giftland’s FoodMaxx Supermarket.
Addressing those gathered at a ribbon cutting ceremony, General Manager Robert Singh said the inauguration of the newest venture marks not just the opening of a new store but the realisation of a dream to revolutionise the shopping experience.
“As I walk through the aisles of our magnificent supermarket, I couldn’t help but be filled with joy at the sight of our shelves stocked with the finest products displayed showcasing the richness of our local offerings,” Singh said.
According to Singh, the commitment goes beyond providing goods on shelves.
“It extends to fostering growth and opportunities within our community,” he said.
Singh pointed out that Massy has retained the employees of FoodMaxx supermarket.
And in providing its services, Singh noted that Massy reaffirms its commitment to supporting local suppliers, ensuring that local products are showcased on the shelves.
“This opening of this new store, in my view is one of the better examples of business integration and collaboration,” he said.
Minister of Labour Joseph Hamilton said the expansion of Massy stores is an indication that Guyana’s economy is robust.
Ventures like these, Hamilton said are supported by the government as they provide job opportunities to dozens of citizens.
“That is the fundamental thing. Every opportunity like this, what it does is give employment to people,” he said.
Massy Stores is a regional supermarket chain with over 50 locations across the Caribbean including St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago.
