Sixty-nine more Lindeners are participating in several skill training programmes through the Board of Industrial Training (BIT), thus elevating their livelihoods and upskilling the region’s workforce.

Of this amount, 35 persons are being trained in the heavy-duty equipment operation programme, 14 in commercial food preparation, 10 in electrical installation, and 10 in air conditioning servicing and repairs.

The programmes were launched Monday at the Linden Technical Institute (LTI) in Region Ten.

During the opening ceremony, BIT’s Chief Executive Officer, Richard Maughn, charged the participants to be persistent and collaborate in order to complete their courses.

Notwithstanding the challenges participants will encounter, the CEO urged them to overcome these obstacles with positive thinking.

“It is important that you understand that in the practical world, you do not work in isolation. Therefore, as trainees you have to learn how to collaborate with each other. You should endeavour to encourage each other to finish collectively. You start as a team and finish as a team, and then you graduate as a team,” Maughn stated.

The recipients were also encouraged to apply all the safety measures during their training sessions.

A stipend is provided to the participants while attending classes and a certificate upon completing the programme.

By investing in these learning ventures, the government is ensuring Guyanese are provided with training opportunities to be qualified to contribute meaningfully to the country’s economic growth.

Chief Recruitment and Manpower Officer, Yolanda Grant along with other officials were also present at the ceremony.
