Pedestrian, 66, dies after struck down by motorcycle


An accident along the Mc Doom Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD) early Thursday morning has resulted in the death of a 66-year-old man.
Dead is Munaisar Sewcharan, a resident of Houston Housing Scheme, EBD.
Police Headquarters said Sewcharan was struck down by motorcycle CL 9030 at around 07:12hrs.
According to a Police report, the motorcyclist, a 29-year-old resident of Craig, EBD, was heading north along the public road when vehicles on the road stopped for Sewcharan to cross the road.
As Sewcharan was at the center of the road on the pedestrian crossing, Police said the motorcyclist failed to stop and collided with him.
Sewcharan was flung some distance away and landed on the road surface, sustaining injuries about his body,
The motorcyclist also fell onto the road and was injured.
An ambulance was summoned and Sewcharan was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit.
He succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention.
Police said the motorcyclist is currently in custody assisting with the investigation.
