Taxi driver robbed of car, phone

Police are investigating an alleged armed robbery on Shon Azeez, a 32-year-old taxi driver from Eccles, East Bank Demerara. Azeez was robbed of his black Allion motor car (registration number PRR 8812), valued at $1.6 million, and a cell phone worth $50,000.
The incident occurred around 21:30 hours on Wednesday in South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, Police Headquarters reported.
Police said the suspects include two men (one armed with a handgun) and a female.
According to the investigation, Azeez, who works for Double ‘D’ Taxi Service in Eccles, was approached at about 20:30 hours by one of the male suspects and the female, who requested a ride to South Ruimveldt.
Upon arrival, the female directed Azeez to stop behind the ‘Shopping Plaza.’ She exited the car while the male suspect in the back seat choked Azeez. Another male suspect then approached the car, pointed a gun at Azeez, and demanded he open the door.
The suspects tied up Azeez and put him into the back of the vehicle and drove him to ‘A’ Field Sophia. There, they abandoned him at the side of the road and escaped with the vehicle. Azeez, still tied up, raised an alarm and was assisted by citizens who took him to the Turkeyen Police Station. Investigations are ongoing.
