The Petra Organisation, renowned for hosting top-notch youth football tournaments across Guyana, has joined forces to support the Upper Mazaruni U-18 Football competition for the second consecutive year.

This year’s edition also welcomes Guyana Beverages Inc. (GBI) as a sponsor, bringing its Busta and Turbo Energy Drink brands on board.

At a sponsorship ceremony held at GBI’s conference room, the organiser Niel Henrito, a teacher at DC Caesar Fox Secondary School, expressed his appreciation for the support.

“Having the Petra Organisation involved is a huge honour,” Henrito said. “They’re a leading light in youth football development in Guyana, and when I discussed expanding the tournament to the hinterland regions, they were immediately interested in supporting us last year. We’re also thrilled to have Guyana Beverages Inc. join us this time around. We have big dreams for this tournament, and this kind of backing helps us make them a reality.”

Petra Organisation Co-Director Troy Mendonca echoed Henrito’s sentiments. “We’re delighted to partner with this tournament again. We commend Mr. Henrito for taking the initiative to get the youths involved in competitive football.  We were happy to help last year, and we’re even more excited to see the tournament grow.”  He commended GBI for providing “valuable opportunities for young athletes.”

Lalita Latchman, representing GBI, highlighted the company’s commitment to supporting sporting activities in hinterland communities. “At GBI, we believe in the power of sports to unite communities, unearth hidden talent, and promote healthy competition,” Latchman stated.

“This tournament is particularly special because it showcases the exceptional skills present in our hinterland regions and offers a platform for young athletes to excel and chase their football dreams.”  She concluded by wishing the organisers and participants all the best for the upcoming tournament.

Last year, Paruima emerged victorious in the male category amidst competition from six villages within the Upper Mazaruni District.

This year, the event will be expanded to include both male and female teams from the participating villages, with a kick-off set for June 16.
