See below full release issued by the Ministry of Public Works on Monday night:

The Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) is pleased to announce that the runway lighting system has been repaired and is now operational.

This vital system sustained damage on Sunday due to severe thunderstorms and lightning strikes.

Several flights are scheduled to land at the airport this evening.

CJIA will now undertake a thorough evaluation of the current lightning protection system to enhance resilience against future lightning strikes.

The airport extends its gratitude its stakeholders and the traveling public for their support during the recent disruptions.

I saw the TV news where they were searching in the bushes for the equipment and it was found almost buried in the ground.
So much in the mental capacity of those responsible for its location…in the first place… unprotected.
