ExxonMobil U-14 School Football: Goal-fest brings end to exciting group stage


The curtain closed on the group stage of the exciting 2024 ExxonMobil Boys and Girls Under-14 Football tournament at the Ministry of Education ground on Saturday.

Individual brilliance was on display in the girls’ division. Nerismar Williams of Bartica stole the show, bagging a stunning five goals in their resounding 6-0 victory over Cotton Tree Secondary. Keilys Williams added the finishing touch in a dominant display.

Veronica Chatta of Santa Rosa continued her remarkable run, netting a phenomenal five goals in a 9-0 thrashing of Abram Zuil. Chatta’s red-hot form has seen her score a staggering 16 goals in just three matches.

 Maria Atkinson also put in a stellar performance for Santa Rosa, securing a hat-trick, while Anelisa Robinson added another goal.

Defending champions Waramuri Top continued their winning streak with a convincing 7-0 victory against Carmel Secondary. Erica Harris led the charge with a hat-trick, ably supported by a brace from Nickisha Williams.

Elsewhere, Three Mile Secondary overcame Tucville Secondary 3-1 with goals from Arianna Stoby, Dalisa Joseph, and Melissa Evans. President’s College secured a 3-1 win over Charity Secondary thanks to a double from Reyanna Gounga.

Bushlot Secondary’s Ashante Scott delivered a hat-trick in their 6-0 demolition of West Minster Girls, with Moneta Frazer and Latisha Jack also getting on the scoresheet.

The Institute of Academic Excellence (IAE) edged out Christ Church 1-0, while Marian Academy cruised to a 7-0 victory over Dolphin Secondary.

The boys’ division also witnessed exhilarating encounters. Chase Academic Foundation emerged victorious over Three Mile with a narrow 3-2 win, powered by a double from Akeel Young and a goal from Aaron King. Abram Zuil edged out St Joseph 2-1 in a close match.

Bartica Secondary continued their strong showing, securing a 3-1 victory over East Ruimveldt. Jadan Christian scored twice for the victors, with Garfield Jones adding another goal. Patentia Secondary secured a comfortable 3-0 win over New Campbellville.

Leonora’s Keon Grant scored a brace in their 4-2 win over VYC Academy, with additional goals from Issiah Wilson and Quincy Fraser. Christ Church caused an upset by defeating President’s College 2-1, with Jadel Liverpool scoring both goals. West Demerara edged out Bushlot 1-0 in a tense encounter.

Other teams securing wins on the final day included School of the Nation, Hope Secondary, Waramuri Top, and Brickdam Secondary.
