Mark Andrew Ramachand, 20, died on Monday after the car he was driving plunged into a trench near the Diamond Public Road, East Bank Demerara.
According to the Guyana Police Force, the incident occurred around 05:30hrs.
Ramachand was driving, motor car, PZZ 4777, which is owned by a female resident of Hope Lowlands, East Coast Demerara.
In a statement, Police Headquarters said enquiries revealed that the car was heading north along the eastern lane of the public road, at a fast rate, when the driver lost control and skid off the road.
The vehicle then turned turtle and ended up in the trench and was submerged.
The Police were summoned, and upon their arrival, the ranks, with the assistance of passersby, removed the vehicle from the trench.
Ramachand was pinned down in the driver’s seat of the vehicle.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ramachand body is currently at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
The car was taken to the Diamond Police Station, where it was lodged to be examined by a Licensing and Certifying Officer.
