Taxi driver, labourer get 3 years jail for ganja trafficking

Hardat Chan, a 27-year-old taxi driver and Treaveth Wintz, a 24-year-old labourer, were on Monday sentenced to three years imprisonment for the possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

Both men are from Heathburn Village, East Bank Berbice and were arrested on Sunday.

Chan was charged for the possession of 235 grammes of marijuana while Wintz was charged with 350 grammes.

Both made their appearances at the New Amsterdam Magistrates Court and pleaded not guilty.
