Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced Desmond Haynes’s and Ann Browne-John’s departure from their roles as Lead Selectors, effective June 30th, 2024.

Haynes, appointed in January 2022, and Browne-John, who took the role in October 2019, oversaw a period of improvement for West Indies teams in the ICC rankings for both men and women.

CWI Director of Cricket, Miles Bascombe, acknowledged their contributions, stating, “We are grateful for Dr. Haynes and Mrs. Browne-John’s dedication and expertise during their terms.”

While their time as Lead Selectors has concluded, CWI indicated they are exploring ways to utilize their experience in other capacities.

The more significant news lies in CWI’s restructuring of the selection process. The organization is committed to building a system that prioritizes scouting, player development, and strategic alignment to identify and nurture talent across all levels.

“The revamped system reflects the needs of the modern cricketing landscape,” said Bascombe. “CWI’s Cricket Development and Performance Committee meticulously considered these changes, focusing on enhanced scouting, depth charting, and talent management practices.”

The new selection system is expected to be ratified at the upcoming CWI Board of Directors meeting later this month.
