Junior CASA: Arjoon and Verwey deliver Mixed Doubles gold for Guyana

Avery Arjoon and Nicholas Verwey have continued to produce gold medal performances at the ongoing Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Junior Championships in Tortola, British Virgin Islands.

Their latest feat was the Mixed Doubles gold when they defeated Barbadians Sarrayah Yearwood and Dominic Wilson 11-9, 11-6.

Michael Alphonso Jr. and Mohryan Baksh were so close to gold with a valiant effort but had to settle for silver in the Boys’ Doubles.

After losing the first set 4-11, they led 7-1 in the second, but the Barbadians rallied back to win 11-9.

With the girls making the semi-finals, Guyana has acquired 12 vital points heading into the team championship from Thursday to Saturday.

Barbados currently leads with 14 points.

The Guyana Squash Association announced the boys’ and girls’ teams, which will have matches in all age groups this year—U-11, U-13, U-15, U-17, and U-19.

The female team will include Tehani Munroe (U-11), Zoey McDonald (U-13), Kaylee Lowe (U-15), and Avery Arjoon (U-17), along with Safirah Sumner and Malia Maikoo in the Under-19.

Alexis Arjoon will be reserved for Under-11 to U-13, while Emily Fung-A-Fat will cover U-15 to U-19.

The boys have a powerful team despite Louis DaSilva and Ethan Bulkan being out due to injury.

Zion Zickerson (U-11), Egan Bulkan (U-13), Justin Goberdan (U-15), and Shiloh Asgregado (U-17) will be the U-19s, while Verwey, Alphonso Jr., and Baksh will be the U-19s.

Guyana won nine individual medals, and GSA hopes that those players repeat such quality performances in the all-important team segment to regain the championship title.
