A three-month-old baby, Leroy Archer, died on Thursday morning following a fire at Hope, West Enmore, East Coast Demerara.
The Guyana Fire Service said the fire was reported at about 10:25 hrs and two fire tenders responded. The first tender, reportedly, arrived at the scene at about 10:35 hrs.
The Fire Service said the child’s mother, Chandroutie Manickchand, was in the bathroom while the child was left in the bedroom.
The mother reported that someone began alerting her to a fire in the house. She ran to the bedroom to get her child but the room had already been engulfed in flames, forcing her to exit the building.
The fire has been contained but further work and investigations are ongoing. More details will be provided in a subsequent report.
