Minister of Natural Resources Vickram Bharrat is demanding an apology and compensation from broadcaster Enrico Woolford over a Facebook post in which Woolford claimed Minister Bharrat was “met, escorted of and questioned by Federal Agents at the JFK airport last night, 11th July 2024.”

Woolford was issued with the noticed to publish the apology and compensation by attorney Sanjeev Datadin.

In the letter, Datatdin told Woolford his “account of what transpired is totally false” and that his “allegation and insinuation is utterly false and without merit.”

Further, Datadin stated: “Your false and libellous publication was maliciously posted to deliberately cause damage to my client’s reputation and character.”

Minister Bharrat is demanding “a clear, unqualified and unconditional apology and retraction in a form, manner and terms to be agreed on or before the 14th July 2024 at 2 p.m.”

“Additionally, having regard to the gravity of the false allegations and the audience to which you circulated your Facebook post, my client is clearly entitled to substantial compensation and reasonable legal costs, in addition to an apology.”

If Woolford fails to comply, Minister Bharrat will take further legal action.

Woolford has been told that his statement may render him liable to criminal charges.
