UPDATE: Boy, 9, dies in Linden/ Soesdyke Highway accident; Police say car driver was speeding

A nine-year-old boy, Malique Roberts, has also died following Friday’s fatal accident at Kairuni on the Linden/ Soesdyke Highway.
It was earlier reported that footballer, Carlyle Hunte died in the accident that involved a car that he (Hunte) was driving and a lorry carrying lumber.
Hunte’s car still carried trade plate (BMS #4). Malique, Hunte’s grandson, and two other children (ages 10 and 12) were travelling in the car.
Police Headquarters reported that the lorry (#GAH 1532) proceeding north along the western side of the Soesdyke/Linden Highway, in the vicinity of Kairuni. The lorry driver, 26-year-old Sawdeo Persaud, reportedly noticed the car proceeding south along the eastern side of the road at a fast rate.
As the car approached the lorry, the driver allegedly lost control and ended up on the western driving lane and into the path of the lorry.
The lorry driver reportedly swerved westwards to avoid a collision but the car still collided with the right side of the lorry. Resultantly, the car toppled several times and ended up on the eastern side of the road.
The driver and the occupants were taken out of the vehicle and rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex. Roberts and Hunte were pronounced dead.
Meanwhile, the 10-year-old was treated and sent away while the 12-year-old was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital. The older child has been admitted to the Georgetown hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit for observation; her condition is regarded as stable.
A ‘Notice of Intended Prosecution’ was prepared and served on the Lorry driver, who remains in custody.
