Constable nabbed with ganja in car trunk


A 29-year-old Police Constable was on Monday taken into custody after 9.6 kilogrammes (or about 21.2 pounds) of marijuana was unearthed in the trunk of the vehicle he was driving.
Police Headquarters said the discovery was made by ranks from Special Branch and Police Division 4B during an intelligence led-operation at around 16:50hrs.
The Constable was the driver of a Toyota Premio car, PYY 4027, which was stopped on the Garden of Eden Public Road, East Bank Demerara.
The Constable, a resident of Linden admitted to having narcotics in the car.
As such, a search was conducted in the vehicle’s trunk and a cardboard box containing two bulky parcels wrapped in plastic was found.
The parcels contained leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.
The Constable was told of the allegation, cautioned and he reportedly remained silent.
The narcotics were weighed, marked and lodged.
The Constable remains in custody as the investigation continues.
