Convincing wins for Slingerz, GDF in KFC Elite League

The Guyana Defence Force Football Club on Monday evening secured a 2-0 victory over their long-standing rivals, the Guyana Police Force Football Club, while Slingerz Football Club cruised to an 11-0 victory over Buxton United Football Club.

Football enthusiasts witnessed a gripping evening on July 15, as the top three teams clashed in Round Two of the KFC Elite League Season Six at the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) National Training Centre in Providence, East Bank Demerara.

Guyana Defence Force FC, the defending champions and current leaders of the points table, won with goals from Obumchi Benjamin in the 20^th minute and Delroy Fraser in the 84^th.

The Guyana Police Force FC, currently in third place, faced difficulties in penetrating the army’s defensive tactics.

Meanwhile, Slingerz FC had a goal-filled match against bottom-placed Buxton United FC, with Kemar Beckford shining by scoring six goals at key intervals: 33^rd, 37^th, 43^rd , 64^th, 76^th and 90^th minutes.

His teammate Marcus Tudor added three goals, scoring in the sixth, 45+2^nd and 61^st minutes, while Curtez Kellman found the net in the 55^th minute and Deon Alfred in the 85^th.

The league includes 10 of Guyana’s premier clubs, namely Guyana Defence Force FC, Guyana Police Force FC, Slingerz FC, Western Tigers FC, Santos FC, Den Amstel FC, Fruta Conquerors FC, Ann’s Grove United FC, Monedderlust FC and Buxton United FC.

It serves as the premier competition for senior men’s players aiming to earn spots in the national team and opportunities with regional and international clubs.

The clubs are vying for top prizes of G$2,000,000, G$1,200,000, G$800,000 and G$500,000, respectively.

Fixtures for July 20: Monedderlust FC will face off against Western Tigers FC from 18:30h, followed by Slingerz FC taking on Ann’s Grove FC from 21:00h at the National Training Centre.
