Inmate found dead in cell at Lusignan Prison

Convicted prisoner, Lindon Lamiazon was Wednesday morning found dead in his cell at the Lusignan Prison. The discovery was made at about 06:00 hrs.

In a press statement, the Guyana Prison Service said Lamiazon was discovered unresponsive while officers on duty were making a routine check.

His blood pressure and pulse were immediately checked and the Prison Service said the nurse was unable to obtain a reading. A doctor was contacted and upon examination, Lamiazon was pronounced dead.

The Prison Service said Lamiazon was recently discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital after he was diagnosed with kidney failure. At the time of his death, Lamiazon was on treatment.

An investigation is underway while the Prison Service said efforts are currently being made to contact Lamiazon’s family.

The man was convicted for 54 months in 2021 for causing death by dangerous driving.
